Continuous casters routinely inject argon gas into the tundish well nozzle to prevent inclusions from clogging the tundish well nozzle bore. This gas injection process is a complex subject that scientists have long studied using experimental data and mathematics. The vast majority of these studies have focused on gas injection into a static liquid where the gas injection point is located in a holding tank bottom or a side wall. Since these studies were done in a static liquid, the solutions derived cannot be directly applied to a tundish well nozzle that has a downward flowing liquid inside the nozzle bore.
