Research and Development of the Copper Staves With Ledge Used for the Blast Furnace

The copper staves with ledge used for blast furnace (BF) have special structures of several kinds, including copper staves with integral ledge on the cold face, copper staves with integral ledge on hot face and copper stave with embedded ledge etc. The function of the ledge is, for some special types of blast furnaces, to decrease the gap between part of the copper stave and the furnace shell, which performs better than those common connectional copper stave without ledge. Furthermore, the connection problem between the upper and lower rows of the stave can be resolved. Meanwhile, refractory slip and the BF gas leak from the cold face of the stave can be avoided. In this paper, key technology for the development and making of copper stave with ledge was described and their industrial application was introduced, which offers important information for the optimal design and application of the copper stave for BF long campaign promotion.
