This study is about power measurements on fluctuations of the plastic layer, in addition to the traditionally reported values from this plastometry, Contraction X, and Plastic Layer Thickness Y, from an automated Sapozhnikov plastometer. It is shown how these data produce vital coke quality information using the Sapozhnikov quotient Y/X, in Sapozhnikov's Classification diagram. It is demonstrated here that quotient Y/X predicts coke oven wall pressure, OWP, and that values greater than 1, (equivalent to 10 kPa wall pressure), are from expanding coking coals that should be tested, and used, with great care.
