Thin coatings of transparent titanium dioxide were produced on cotton fabrics from alkoxide Solutions at low temperatures. The structure and morphology of these coatings were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). SEM images showed the formation of a continuous layer of sol-gel derived titanium dioxide with grains of about 15 nm in size. XRD, Raman spectra and TEM micrographs indicated the existence of small amount of anatase crystallites within the films.
