Recent Developments in Process Simulation of Long Products

For over two decades the Finite Element Analysis system DEFORM has been used for metal forming process simulation. In addition, the modeling of rolling, extrusion and tube reducing processes has been available but has tended to be computationally inefficient. Recently, the need to model the processing of long products economically has been addressed via a hybrid technique, the ALE method. The current work will illustrate a number of long product applications and provide a comparison between Lagrangian and ALE predictions.
