Utilization of recycled aggregate for the production of new concrete has been increasing gradually owing to the environmental and economical aspects. The use of recycled con-crete in Civil Engineering is a new research tendency developed in recent years, especially in the mainland of China. In this paper, concerning the concrete recycling of abandoned runway in former Jianwan Military Airport, the technology methods of shattering and sifting waste concrete, and the basic properties of recycled aggregate are investigated. Moreover, the construction workability and the mechanical behavior of recycled concrete made from this kind of recycled aggregate are preliminary examined, the feasibility both in techniques and economy for recycling the waste concrete from the airport runway is discussed. Finally, it is concluded that the waste concrete from the airport runway can be reused and recycled.
