摘要

This paper presents the results of an analysis of fatal and severe injury crashes involving commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). The analysis included 463 crashes that occurred in Minnesota between July 1 st 2000 and December 31st 2002. The crashes were assigned to one of eleven categories. Three of these categories - stop sign-controlled intersection crashes; rear-end crashes; and crossing-the-centerline crashes - accounted for 287 (62.0%) of the crashes. Further analysis of these three categories suggests that CMV drivers are far less likely than the drivers of other vehicles to take actions that lead to a fatal or severe injury crash.
