Vanadium antimonate of composition VSbO4, and which has been used industrially as an oxidation catalyst for many years, has been made by mechanical milling methods. The material has a significantly smaller particle size, ca. 23nm, compared with vanadium antimonate prepared by conventional calcination methods. Antimony-121 M?ssbauer spectroscopy shows that, despite the high surface area, the antimony in vanadium antimonate prepared by milling methods is predominantly present as Sb5+.
