Many industrial steel structures are coated for protection and safety. During service, such structures may develop corrosion that needs to be carefully monitored. It is a challenging task to measure metal loss in such samples without removing the nonconductive coatings which is a costly and time consuming exercise. The problems get more complicated as with time the thickness of the coating most likely changes and varies from one section to another. It is also generally required to obtain the thickness of the coating to maintain safety. This paper presents the progress of our work on the use of Pulsed Eddy Current NDT for tackling such problems.
