NDT Workbench includes 3D ultrasonic data display software which has been under development for a number of years. After undergoing a number of trials and tests it was decided in 2004 that the software was sufficiently mature for use on a critical inspection, and standpipe weld inspections at a Magnox Power Station were selected. Since the existing inspection procedure had already undergone ENIQ qualification for sizing, it was necessary to maintain this qualification status and this activity would focus primarily on NDT Workbench and its application. Maintaining the qualification status required the re-convening of the third party qualification body, whose approval would be required for any changes in the way the inspection was to be carried out. It was agreed the qualification body that the inspection procedure document would be revised, a supplement to the technical justification would be produced and analysts would undergo training and blind trial assessment. This was all completed and approved by the qualification body in time for inspections in April 2005. The NDT Workbench software was used successfully and enabled the data analysis to be carried out more efficiently and in a reduced time compared with the existing GUIDE software.
