Green and blue dichromatic azo dyes having polarization characteristic similar to iodine were synthesized and in turns poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-dye polarizing films containing such dyes were prepared. These firms showed excellent polarizing ability in the spectrum range from 550 to 700nm. A neutral gray polarizing film was prepared by mixing two newly synthesized dichromatic dyes with other several dyes. The obtained polarizing film of neutral gray color was little pervious to light over the visible radiation wavelength region, particularly 400 to 700nm at cross state, and excellent in the polarizing activities as well as the stability to moisture and heat.
