Effect of block composition on the morphology of “schizophrenic” block copolymer micelles

Poly(t-butyl acrylate)-b-poly(2-Dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (PtBA-b-PDMAEMA) synthesized by sequential atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using 1-Chlorophenylethane (1-PECl) as initiator and CuCl /N,N,N’,N”,N”-Pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as catalyst. Then the “Schizophrenic” block copolymer was obtained by hydrolysising PtBA-b-PDMAEMA using trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). The dicopolymer can dissolved in water and self-assembled into micelles/reversed micelles by adjusting pH value of solution. The morphology of “schizophrenic” block copolymer micelles can be precisely adjusted by block composition.
