A aliphatic polyester matrix was prepared by using 2,2-Dimethylol Propionic Acid (DMPA) as water-soluble group, adipic acid as bi-functional carboxylic acid monomer, 2,2-Dimenthyl -1,3-propandiol (NPG) and 1,6-Hexandiol as bi-functional alcohol monomer. The factors which influence the reaction process, hydroxyl value and molecular weight of product have been investigated in detail. The results show that the ideal aliphatic polyester matrix can be obtained at 1.2/1 mol ratio -OH numberACOOH, phosphoric acid as catalyst, 3-4 min/°C heating rate. The chemical structure of product has been examined by FTIR and NMR. There exist carboxyl acid group in the macromolecular chain of polyester matrix, which can be neutralized and thus water-soluble polyester coating can be obtained.
