Properties of Quasar Environments at z < 0.2

We analyze the environment of low-redshift quasars using datafrom the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We find that quasars and galax-ies are similarly clustered and that quasars systematically avoid high densityregions. The immediate neighborhoods of quasars are populated by blue star-forming galaxies. In contrary to star formation in galaxies, which is related tothe presence of close companions, we find that AGN fueling does not require thepresence of close companions.
