Filled bolometer arrays are currently being developed to fullysample the focal plane of the PACS photometer. PACS is one of three instru-ments aboard the Herschel Space Observatory, which will be launched by theEuropean Space Agency in 2007. The photometer covers the spectral range from60 to 210 μm with two detectors: one with 2048 pixels devoted to measurementsfrom 60 to 130 μm, and another with 512 pixels covering the 130 to 210 μmwavelength region. The detector design for each pixel is adapted so that theirperformance is close to the theoretical sensitivity limit under the foreseen back-ground. We describe the performance of these detector arrays, and the programto adapt them to ground based observations.
