Multichannel magnetometers and vector gradiometers based on low temperature superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) having the field resolution in the order of fT/√Hz have been developed for the purpose of measuring weak biomagnetic fields generated by nerve activities. In combination with cryostats optimized for the shape and the scale of measurement subjects, the magnetometer and gradiometer array have successfully detected propagation signals through spinal cord and peripheral nerves.
