An analysis of geographic information (GI) markets indicates untapped business potential, specifically in Germany. Our market analysis has highlighted requirements for complex. GI solutions and the creation of project-related virtual value chains. Thecreation of an information market implies the design of marketplace structures. Based on a review of the electronic markets literature and an empirical assessment of the requirements of the financial services industry, the paper develops a business model of an electronic mixed-mode marketplace. We apply this model to the market of geographic information (services).
