The hydrogenation of cyclohexene on palladium catalyst was performed continuously in a falling film microreactor at 25-65 deg C, 0-40psig hydrogen pressure and 5 vol percent cyclohexene in toluene. Organic peroxides contained in the feed can deactivate the catalyst, and for this reason cyclohexene was purified by treatment with alumina. It was observed that the treatment time and the amount of alumina utilized should be above a certain threshold to completely avoid deactivation. In cases where deactivation occurred, air oxidation at 200 deg C was sufficient to restore catalytic activity.
