This paper presents the effects of refrigerants on the tribological characteristics of refrigeration oils using a Block-on-Ring tribometer. When used in POE or AB oil, TCP clearly formed lubricating films under R410A, which was confirmed by measuring the width of the wear and electrical contact resistance at the point of sliding contact. Surface analyses revealed that a phosphate film had been formed. It was also found that R32 prevents TCP from adsorbing to the Fe surface, thereby interfering with the formation of lubricating films to a greater extent than does R410A.
