摘要

The tribological origin of squeal noise in lubricated sliding contacts between elastomer and glass is discussed A specific interest has been brought to the transition between wet and dry regimes during which friction instabilities and contact vibrations appear. It is shown that vibrations involve a single mode and that no stick phase is observed. The instability of the system comes from a velocity-weakening behavior of friction. Real-time observation of the contact by interferometry highlights the role of the real contact area in this velocity weakening process and the contribution of capillary adhesion to the friction force.
