Newly Developed Lead-Free and Chromium-Free Electrogalvanized Steel Sheets with Excellent Solderability

Recently, people is getting more and more concerned with environmental issues all over the world and are especially paying much attention to the influence of chemicals and heavy metals to the environment. The regulation for the prohibition of using Pb, Hg, Cd, Cr(6+) has being in force in several cotmtries in the world. In case of the industry using solders, the solders are being changed from lead containing solders (Pb-Sn) to lead-free solders( However Pb-Sn plated steel sheets have been widely used as solderable materials yet. Therefore the steel sheets excluding Pb showing good soldering performance are preferable to the customers in the industry using solders( TOYO KOHAN has been commercially producing lead-free electrogalvanized steel sheets for soldering use since 1987). The steel sheets have being widely used for electric and electronic applications. TOYO KOHAN has newly developed lead-free and chromiumfree solderable electrogalvanized steel showing not only excellent solderability, but corrosion resistance and no whisker growing after long period of storage. This paper reports the newly developed electrogalvanized steel sheets.
