Structural health assessment of a R/C building in the coastal area of Concepcion, Chile.

摘要

The structural health assessment of a fourteen stories high reinforced concrete building, vulnerable to significant deformation and damage due to seismic and hydrodynamic excitations generated by earthquakes and tsunamis, is presented in this article. This building was built in 2013 and it is located in the coastal area of Concepcion (Chile), in the same zone affected by the M8.8 Maule earthquake and tsunami in 2010. A structural assessment of the building was performed combining extractions of material samples (concrete cores), non-destructive tests of materials (sclerometer), vibration based techniques to identify the dynamic characteristics of the building (operational modal analysis), and numerical modeling. A numerical model of the building was generated and updated using the information obtained by the in-situ tests. The goal of this structural assessment was to evaluate the feasibility of using this building as a vertical evacuation structure during a tsunami threat.
