Our previous study has indicated some "unexpected" mechanical behaviour of a group of structures that are subjected to dynamic loading such as seismic or blast waves and impacts: The "unexpected" behaviour may be recognised if the behaviour of the structural group is analysed collectively and each structure is not treated separately. In this contribution, by handling the real examples of structural damage caused by the 1976 Friuli, Italy, and 2007 Noto Peninsula, Japan, earthquakes, we consider the dynamic interaction between a group of structures through the anti-plane waves in the ground, and based on the elastodynamic theory, we show that such structures may actually behave in an "unexpected" way: The phenomenon may be called the "town effect" or "city effect."
