Tin oxide nanoparticles have been successfully prepared through a sol-gel process starting with tin dichloride and absolute ethanol as precursors. The conversion of xerogel to tin oxide was studied using TGA. The crystallites of particles heat-treated at 600°C, 700°C and 800°C were characterized by XRD. The microstructure and size of the particles were observed with SEM and TEM. Tin oxide nanoparticles with the average size of 17.4nm were successfully obtained upon firing at 600°C for 2h.
