摘要

This paper describes the Digital Media Management program (GMD, in Portuguese), offered by the City of Knowledge for staff working at public internet access points in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, since August 2002 (www.cidade.usp.br/gmd). The mission of the program is to network these professionals with the university's knowledge production centers for the profit both of 'digital inclusion agents' (advanced training and consulting with the academic community) and academicians doing research on new forms of knowledge production leveraged by information and communication technologies (ICTs). Network development is moderated by Brazil's largest public university focusing on project design and knowledge management. Networked projects must be oriented to problem-solving in underserved communities, mostly in the periphery of the city of Sao Paulo. The main goal of the program is to forge lifelong learning communities through networking that leverage development and social projects, putting information and communication technologies to a collaborative use.
