There are some technical advantages for CSP line compared with traditional hot continuous rolling mill for the characteristics such as thin slab, uniform longitudinal finish rolling temperature, basically constant rolling speed and high mill rigidity. However, only less than 10 out 30 CSP lines all over the world have been realized mass production of thin strip with thickness lower than 1.5mm and the yield strength of most products was no more than 345MPa because of high demand of production technologies. There is a tendency that the hot thin strips produced by CSP were applied gradually in manufacture field such as electrical cabinet, cable tray and security door replacing cold rolled sheet, which can reduce certain material cost but is hard to make a great breakthrough in light-weight manufacture, energy saving and emission reduction. In this paper, after overcoming rolling difficulty, development and stable mass production practice of high strength thin strip (yield strength: >700MPa, thickness: 1.2mm ~ 2.0mm, first case in the world) by CSP in WISCO was described focusing on equipment configuration, strengthening mechanism, chemical composition, smelting and rolling process. It's proved to be feasible that the hot thin strip can be used directly replacing cold-rolled sheet in high-end manufacture field such as light-weight container and safety components of auto industry, which is not only helpful in reducing material cost and profit improvement, but also creating social benefit in aspects of lightweight, energy saving and emission reduction.
