Barium-bearing compounds are very useful materials in metallurgy, especially in refining processes carried out in ladle furnace. In the article two materials contained barium were used: BaO as a compound of slag systems and Si - Ca - Ba alloy as a calcium and barium carrier. The deoxidation, desulfurization, dephosphorization, improved microstructure and mechanical properties were achieved in many laboratory investigations and industrial tests using barium alloys. In the present study steel grades from EAF were treated by Si - Ca - Ba alloy with special formed slag system or without it. Nitrogen dissolved in steel can be reduced in a few ways. One of them uses synthetic slag system with suitable physical - chemical properties. In the article systems based on CaO - BaO were used for denitrogenizing of molten steel. All presented experiments were performed in Tammann resistance furnace, under 1,1 atm. pressure of Ar or Ar + N2 and at temperature 1823 K.
