United States Steel Corporation (U. S. Steel) Great Lakes Works experienced a problem of tuyere nose failures on B2 blast furnace. A heat transfer and water flow computer model of the nose section was developed. The computer modeling indicated that insufficient cooling in a large area between the nose inlet and outlet pipe caused the failures. This work discusses the computer modeling principles, results and solution for the problem.
