Willi continuous deterioration in the quality of raw materials there is an increasing focus on improving the steelmaking process. The objective of the present study was to analyse the major thermodynamic aspects associated with BOF steelmaking process with particular emphasis on dephosphorization. The thermodynamic analysis focused on estimation of phosphorus partition between slag and molten steel, an important aspect for evaluating dephosphorization in steelmaking. This study examined the relationships developed by several researchers including Bloom et al.~1, Healy~2, K. Balajiva et al~3, Turkdogan~4, and Suito and Inoui5 for predicting phosphorus partition based on tapping temperature and slag composition.
