All Bright Stocks are Not Created Equal; Formulating Fluids to Meet the MORGOIL Advanced Lubricant Specification Revision 2.4

Bright stocks from different crude sources can present challenges to formulators in meeting the oxidation, rust and demulsibility requirements of the MORGOIL Advanced Lubricant Specification Revision 2.4. For the latter requirement, two tests - ASTM D2711 and the Dynamic Demulsibility Endurance- must be passed at a lower temperature, 125°F (52°C) than what is traditionally used, 180°F (82°C). Data will be presented showing how a combination of demulsifiers at different treat levels can be used to formulate five bright stocks to pass the demulsibility requirements, although solubility issues may limit their utility to the formulator.
