This workshop was organised in order to create a forum for exchanging, comparing and reflecting lessons learned from knowledge management projects carried out in small and medium enterprises (SME). We wanted show that and how it is possible to establish knowledge management solutions without spending a fortune - but not without creative ideas, a deep understanding of the users requirements, a seamless co-operation between all participating departments, an efficient use of the project members time and contributions and last not least doing the right things at the right time. We are convinced that this type of lean approaches to knowledge management is interesting for many other small and medium enterprises that feel a need for a better utilisation of their employees' knowledge and experiences but - at least at the moment - can afford only small and pragmatic steps into the right direction. As soon as these small steps pay back their return on investment this opens up more opportunities for bigger steps during the coming years.
