REMOTE SITE MANAGEMENT - BLENDING BUILDING AUTOMATION AND INTERNET TECHNOLOGIES TO MANAGE REMOTE SITES FOR ENERGY AND OPERATIONS SAVINGS

This paper describes how Internet technologies and basic building automation components can be integrated into an affordable, scalable solution that generates energy and operations savings for remote multi-sites through a process called continuous commissioning. Topics covered include energy and operations savings strategies, web-enabled gateways, the IT concepts needed for sharing IT and Internet infrastructures, security, server software and browser based user interfaces. Topics are described by way of a remote site management system implemented for convenience stores. Convenience stores individually have a low individual energy usage and are underserved in terms of energy savings strategies. They are multi-sites, have a variety of energy consuming devices, a high-energy usage per square foot, and collectively consume more than 3,600 MW in the US.
