The design and the synthesis of molecular conductors leading to discovery by the Chernogolovka group of the first quasi-two-dimensional organic superconductors at ambient pressure are outlined starting with TCNQ salts followed by passing on to tetrachalcogenotetracene ones and then on to the superconductors β-(BEDT-TTF)_2I_3 with a critical temperatures of 1.5 K and 8.0 K. In the context with the investigations of the Chernogolovka group, the results of other groups related to the search for organic superconductors are discussed in brief as well.
