A mixture of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), also known as biodiesel, formed from the transesterification of triglycerides present in vegetable oils and animal fats with methanol has emerged as a green energy source for the substitution of fossil fuels. The search for solid state materials with high catalytic activities and no leaching into the reaction medium is one of the key steps toward reducing the cost of producing biodiesel.
