摘要

Hydrogen production from water is one of the most promising technologies in the field of solar fuel production. One of the most studied methods in the last decades has been the use of two-step water-splitting thermochemical cycles based on metal oxides redox pair. Two step metal-oxide redox cycle, proposed for the first time in 1977 [1,2], proceed with the endothermic solar thermal dissociation of the metal oxide to the metal or the lower-valence oxide (Eq. 1) followed by second, non-solar, exothermic step corresponding to the hydrolysis of the metal/lower-valence oxide to form H2 and regenerating the metal oxide (Eq. 2).
