Nowadays, reducing the sulfur contents in gasoline and diesel to produce ultra clean fuels is a hot topic all over the world. Under the high challenge of the stringent environmental regulation, many developed countries begin to implement the low sulfur specifications of fuels less than 10 ppm. Mesoporous materials with open pores are the idea catalyst supports for the hydrodesulfurization of the refractory molecules such as DBT and 4,6-DMDBT. Mesostructured cellular silica foams (MCFs) prepared with the microemulsions as template have well-defined ultralarge mesopores, uniformly sized windows and three-dimension pore structures. Recently, Zhang et al. has synthesized the hierarchically porous Beta-KIT-6 materials firstly, and applied it in the hydrodesulfurization of DBT, showing perfect results. In this paper Beta-MCFs composite was synthesized and applied to catalyze hydrodesulfurization of diesel.
