ARE INDOOR CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND STRUCTURES FIRE SAFE?

Many shopping malls and fast food restaurants contain fairly large children's playground structures.Unfortunately,the flammability of the materials of construction of such structures is not regulated.A recent fire test of a sample structure showed a potential for easy ignition followed by the release of large amounts of heat and smoke associated with a very rapid loss of tenability.The presence of horizontal metallic surfaces (lined with combustibles) in these playgrounds means that even the use of full sprinkler protection is inadequate to protect the children who use them,mainly due to the time inyolved in escape of the children or their rescue.
