BULGARIAN POLICY AND ACTIONS FOR MUNICIPAL WWTPs CONSTRUCTION AND UPGRADING

摘要

Bulgaria is among the countries with the smallest water resources in Europe of about 2,400 m~3 per capita per year. Currently only about 42% of those resources are useable, because of pollution caused by domestic, industrial and diffuse (agricultural runoff) sources, among which the point pollution sources prevail. With the definite trend of increasing water consumption, the water deficit is going to become one of the most severe national problems. That is why wastewater treatment is recognised by the government as a priority, which is very important for the society with its significant social, economic and ecological impacts.
