Material Recycling of a Mixture of Residual Plastics from Waste Household Appliances

Effect of the amount of the contamination on the mechanical properties of the recycled polypropylene (PP) sorted from a mixture of residual plastics of waste household appliances in the consumer electronic recycling plant were evaluated. Moreover, modification of recycled PP sorted from a mixture of residual plastics was studied. The purity of the recycled PP sorted from a mixture of residual plastics was 99% or more. The toughness of the recycled PP was larger than that of non-treated recycled PP by removing the contamination in the pelletizing process with the mesh screening. The mechanical properties of the recycled PP were almost equal to those of the virgin PP. Toughness of recycled PP including contamination was improved by adding olefjnic elastomer, and the flame-retarded recycled PP was obtained adding brominated flame retardant and antimony trioxide.
