Configuration of Production Planning and Control Methods in Industrial Supply Chains

Supply Chain Management can be regarded as a holistic approach for the management of processes across the entire chain of companies that contribute to the production of a product. The research carried out in this field does not yet provide companies with straightforward instructions of how to configure the operations management procedures in their supply chain. This paper presents the first results of a research project that seeks to remove this shortcoming by defining general configurations of logistic supply chain processes and empirically determining typical process characteristics. By combining the two, suitable configurations of operations planning and control procedures in supply chains are identified.
