Based on multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA), large target-scale problems can be solved efficiently now. The translation operators are amenable for the efficiency of MLFMA. In this paper, an efficient modified interpolation technique is developed for fast evaluation of translation operators. Different form other efficient techniques for translation operators in which only the evaluation of multiple angles is performed, the space-distance interpolation is implemented by introducing a modified factor. Two-dimensional Lagrange interpolation technique is used to realize fast computation of the operators in case of multiple space-distance and angles at a given level. Low computer storage for translation operators is required. The present technique is suitable for distributed memory machines.
