SAES Smart Materials (SSM) is working to develop new test methods to define the thermomechanical behavior of shape memory alloys (SMA). This work was started by the Aerospace Vehicle Systems Institute (AVSI) as a first step to document the flight readiness of SMA components for aircraft and deep space vehicles. The test methods are being developed under the auspices of ASTM International, Subcommittee E08.05.07 on thermomechanical fatigue.
