摘要

The paper focuses on radio frequency identification devices with improved sensorial abilities and investigates their involvement in homeland and environmental security applications. An application level methodology is suggested which allows the passive device for reducing the total energy required to send the acquired information back to the reader unit. This allows the designer for increasing both reading throughput and reading distance, hence covering a larger acquisition area. The application requirements are cast in an optimization problem which is then solved with a genetic algorithm-based optimization procedure.
