This paper deals with the visualization of failure mechanisms for soil cutting with a blade by means of X-ray CT method. The model tests of soil cuttings using a simple flat blade were performed in air-dried sand. The failure mechanisms were scanned at every 1.0mm thickness in the vertical direction of the soil chamber and reconstructed into 2-D and 3-D images. As a result, configurations of slip surface generated in the model ground could be clarified. This will facilitate a reasonable modeling of the soil cutting resistance under 3-D conditions.
