Upgrade's impact on Protection Automation schemes under Emergency conditions: Case study of Gibraltar Electricity Authority's power distribution system

摘要

This paper presents the experience of the Gibraltar Electricity Authority in the retrofit and automation of the HV grid. The GEA project expectations and constraints were mainly on the continuity of service, the strong reduction of the HV grid failures with anticipation of the future generation sources and consumption growth. The project has been split in various steps to optimise the replacement and upgrade of the grid, protections and automation schemes with deep use of simulation tools. The future is described with the capability given to GEA to define the priority of evolutions for each existing and evolution of Gibraltar HV Grid.
