The power generation by wind turbines has been developed to a major part besides the classical power plants based on coal, gas and nuclear fuel. Since some years the installation of big wind farms located offshore is investigated and in implementation. The first wind farms have been connected to the transmission grids e.g. in UK. Major activities are in progress in Germany to install different wind farms in a total of several Gigawatts installed power within the next years. In France the wind farm Cote d'Albatre is in the realization process. The overall size of the wind farm is 105 MW delivered by 21 wind generators of the type AREVA Multibrid M5000. The location of the wind farm is offshore in the Normandy in France. A major part of the implementation process is the proof of the compatibility to the connection requirements defined by the transmission system owner. The requirements for the connection are defined in Grid Codes available for the different transmission system owners. Even if the general rules are similar in all Grid Codes there are a lot of details which create special requirements. The presented paper will give a summary of the investigations carried out to fulfill the given requirements by RTE, the French grid operator. This includes investigations on steady state analyses as well as transient stability calculations. Additionally small signal stability investigations have been carried out to round up the complete scope. The basic model is described in general. The requirements and the methodology to fulfill the requirements are highlighted. The results are given by some examples. Detailed data are mainly required to investigate dynamic behaviour of the wind farm in case of faultride- through situations. Here the behaviour of the individual wind turbines as well as a whole wind farm has been tested. The required investigations have been carried out successfully by a team of different partners including competing companies. The latest results are that all requirements are fulfilled and approved.
