Macroelectronics: large-area flexible electronics for sensors, displays, and other applications

There is an avalanche of interest in flexible electronics for industry and government applications. Much of this is driven by display applications as evidenced by a host of technical conferences. Displays however are unique in that the requirements placed on the semiconductor devices in the active matrix are not nearly as stringent as those required in other electronic applications. That is why there is significant technical interest in organic thin film transistors (TFT). Organic TFTs can be comparable to the amorphous silicon TFTs that currently dominate the active matrix display world.
