New Accessibility Design Requirements for Stadium-Style Seating Motion Picture Theaters ICC/ANSI A117.1 - 2004

Since the 1992's advent of the Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility guidelines (ADAAG), motion picture theater houses have been sued for civil rights violations against people with disabilities. The primary litigation has focused on lines of sight experiences and location of wheelchair spaces and their companion seating, or on assistive devices for people with hearing impairment. This article addresses the wheelchair space location and lines of sight issue. Additionally this article presents the first in-depth discussion on new, building code, design guidelines specifically targeted towards stadium-style seating in motion picture theaters.
