Outstanding 1000W AC/DC Power Supply with Boost PFC and Single Switch DC/DC Converter can replace Supplies including Multi-Switch Topologies

The power capability of a single switch SMPS consisting of a boost PFC and a forward converter is analyzed. Using modern passive and active devices (magnetic material, semiconductors) the power range of the topology is extended to application areas where usually multi switch topologies are used (approx. 1 kW). Today's limits concerning the use of simple SMPS topologies are shown by theoretical analysis and practical design and test of a converter. In the end several design rules for simple single switch power supply topologies can be deduced.
