Measurements are the key to valid process control in the process industry, where customer satisfaction and profitability are closely related to the quality of the product, and where quality again depends on process control and hence on measurements. In measurement calibration the less frequently updated but accurate information flow from laboratory measurement results are used as a reference to the frequently updated but less accurate information flow from on-line measurement results. In this paper the consistency measurement from TMP-plant is used as an example. The laboratory practices are dealt with and through two examples are shown the function of the dynamic calibration of on-line measurement. The validation of measurement is based on the use of SPC (statistical process control) methods and data fusion; also the process knowledge is important.
